dans review here

pagan fest was the best gig ever. it was funny when me pete and his mate dressed like vikings lmao. are the pics up.
it was fuckin awsome to see all the bands at pagan fest. my favorite bands ever. cheers. cnt wait to se the pics lmfao

miss_sami's reply:

lol that was right long review!
I drove and me and my mate got sooo very very lost in Leeds, and as such we (who thought we were going to be early) also ended up appearing half way thru the first band!
Then we got lost again trying to get out! hahaha, FTL :-(

who was your fav band? I assume koriplaani as they are at the top of the list with TWO explanation marks next to their name
I enjoyed Ensiferum and Moonsorrow the best. But then again I do fancy the singer from Ensiferum, so maybe my opinion is somewhat bias ;-)

Actually, were you the really tall guy who appologised to the wall? (If you indeed remember that at all?...)

my reply to miss sami (http://www.last.fm/user/miss_sami/)

greetings

aye : ) i like to go into detail as you'd be suprised how faulty human memories can be!

haha we were getting annoyed with all of the no right turns! we knew exactly what direction we had to go in (thanks to my trust keyring compass :P ) but none of the roads would take us there lol

aye not sure on my favourite now! but when i got back it was koorpikaani yeah hehe
now I look back on it, eluvieti are my favourite heheh :D

i saw the lead singer of ensiferum a few weeks ago too when i saw norther support turisas in liverpool : )
didnt like him much then either lol :P

gotta be honest!

hehe

cheers for the review even if it is rather short :P

I think moonsorrow are still my favourite, for listening to at home, koorpiklaani live, then eluviete. i had a headache by the time ensiferum came on and was absolutely starving so didnt enjoy it as much as I shouldve done! : (

i want another pagan fest! lol

mike's review

OK man, i'll try... here goes...

Got the train to Manchester and from there got a train to Leeds. Ended up on a train with Rob, Shea, Alan and Tarrin. upon arrival we were amazed at the size of the station and got slightly lost on the way to the travelodge (which was, in fact, about 2 minutes from the station...who knew?). Then, off to Alan and Tarrin's travelodge which was right up by the Rios. On the way we met two crazy mo'fo's...Joe and Pete. After a 30 minute wait for the two crazy fellas to put on their warpaint we went on a walk around Leeds city centre searching for the elusive Carpe Diem pub... eventually found it down a sidestreet. The noise level rose dramatically as we entered, as did the cries for wenches and mead.
For what I can only assume was the lack of noise from the rest of the clientele we decided to go to a different pub, which led to another tour of Leeds and finally stopping in Wetherspoons...real ale festival.
In there we met the same two old rockers that we'd seen on the way to Carpe Diem. They were off to Paganfest too. Had a good chat with them and then a nice young lady in an Amon Amarth top walked off... Pete chased after her, convinced that he would introduce her to me. Crazy, crazy man!
Anyway, it was time to set off for the gig...

Queued up for a while, during which time Pete and Joe manged to break their axes. lol.
As we entered we heard a band playing... could it be? It was! Eluveitie had already started! Oh noes! We shot up the stairs an straight down to the front...

Eluveitie:
They were about halfway through Ini Mona when we got in. It was great finally seeing them live! Only waited about 2 years for it! I think everyone agreed that Anna Murphy, the hurdy gurdy player, was fuckin' hot! Anyway, the set was awesome, full of energy and a perfect opener for the paganfest.

After Eluveitie I went looking for a few of my other mates who I knew were there. Found em near the bar. Typical! Great to see them again. (Eyebrow Dave, Dave The Wizard, Big Dave, Mike Sheep, Craig, Sorrell and Dave's new gf (whose name I don't recall :/ ).

Tyr:
To be honest, the only reason I wanted to see Tyr is that i'd had so many opportunities and something had always gone wrong!Anyway, they were about as enjoyable as they are on the cd...ok if you're into it I suppose. They got a good response from the crowd at any rate... and they played Hail to the Hammer, which was cool.

Moonsorrow:
Watched these with the guys from Manchester. I didn't know any of the songs (i oly have the Kivenkantaja album) but I really liked it. Agains, a lot of energy and awesome talent on display.

Korpiklaani:
Again, not a band i've heard a lot by but they were enjoyable. they played all the songs I know, which was fortunate! lol.

During Korpiklaani's set I spied some of the guys from Eluveitie so I spent a bit of time talking to them...I met the singer, Chrigel Glanzmann, the fiddler, Meri Tadic and the drummer, Merlin Sutter. they signed my cd booklets! Win!
After that I met the whole of Tyr, who again signed my cd booklets.

Anyway, feeling a bit thirsty so I had a bottle of St Helier...£3.50 but very worth it! Mike Sheep bought me a bottle of Carlsberg and I was ready to re-enter the fray! It was time for the main event...

Ensiferum:
Now, to be honest I wasn't expecting a lot of Ensiferum... i mean, they've got Petri 'Norther' Lindroos on vocals and i am not a fan of his or Norther's at all. However, I was very pleasantly surprised! Ensiferum were superb (Petri even managed to look like he was enjoying it...) and played an absolutely awesome set! Favourite bit was probably singing along to LAI LAI HEI with Eyebrow Dave! they also played Treacherous Gods, which was immense!

After the gig we endured a long wait trying to get everyone together and then a walk back to the overpriced hotel bar. Got berated by The Wizard (Dave) for going to bed early though. lol. Shea seemed to enjoy himself a lot and both he and Rob were mightily drunk!

Overall view of the night: A metalized fudgecake of awesomeness with a dollop of pwn and topped with win! |m|

miss_sami:

Its not quite as epic as yours though!

"Well Paganfest was dandy.
We got somewhat rather lost trying to find our way around gay Leeds. Leeds is truely the gayest city I have ever driven around. Then when we parked up at a 24 hr NCP style car park we still didn't know where Rio's was!
GAY
But Sami's fail-proof "Follow the Metallers" technique worked and we found it!
Who puts a club inside another building.
W.T.F.
When we got there the first band had already started, but they still had about half a set to go anyway. Cant remember their name, nor can I be bothered to look it up. They were poo and had so many band members on stage it was an orgy!
Then it was Tyr. Poo music but a nice sexy singer *phwoar* Had a shit view of them though, stood behind a pillar and a tall man >.< But once they had finished he moved and I situated myself in the spot of joy, on the other side of the pillar.
Moonsorrow were on next. They were rather good, played some good songs but the sound was a bit off with regards to the singer (basially you couldn't hear him all of the time) But all in all, was muchly enjoyed and I'm looking forward to seeing them again at Bloodstock!
Up next were Korpiklanni (or however you spell it) despite hating their music on record, they were pretty good live. And the singer, although old, had a cheeky face which made me happy. Crowd got a bit excitable but as I was in a good spot I only got bashed from one side! Hurray!
Also, it was like a 10 - 15 minute gap between bands which was good. After Korpi had finished I went to go get a drink and got raped out of £1.50 for a bottle of water.
Then it was Ensiferum HELLO Petri. In a skirt. Yes. And they played well and I enjoyed it and Petri was looking fine! At the start these lad kept bashing me in the nose with his hand, though after doing in twice he apologised and him and his mate moved away. A random dood came out of the pit with blood proper pouring out of his nose, stood there for about 5 mins (with Chris and these two lads asking him if he was ok and trying to get him to one side) when he decided he was going back in! Lol Hardcore!
One of the lads trying to help him ended up with his blood all over his chest :-S That lad was dead sweet, everytime he so much as touched me he apologised ^_^ Which makes for a nice change!!
Then it finished and we went back to the car. Suprisingly the cost for parking was only £3.50! Huzzah!
Got a bit lost thanks to Leeds signposts, then said signposts took us around Leeds 458947568934 times before taking us to the motorway. Then we got on the motorway and drove home and I eated my tea of spicy chicken pasta with my hands as I had lost my fork. It was yummeh. Although I did make a big mess with it as the sauce was very stain-y and eating it with my fingers in the dark whilst driving wasn't the smartest decision I have ever made...
Good times.
The end."

Pete:

haha nice write up!

woah didnt see the nosebleed guy!

not like last fm to fail! unlucky! at least u didnt have to retype it :P

leeds seemed fine apart from the one way system, then again manchester is a bit confusing at first too... cant imagine what its like for london!

haha we used the follow the metallers technique too haha until we realised they didnt know where they were going either!! hhaha

lucky bugger! our car park was about £9

wish i could go to bloodstock!
need to get a friend of a friend to buy my V ticket so I can go (its the same weekend)

spot of joy lol u lucky git! although i was all over the place all night haha mostly at the back or side though as always conscious of blocking peoples views

cheeky koorp face haha! wish i could remember it! we were dancing (and falling over) mad jigs near the small bar so didnt see much of the band!

there was tap water for free!! remember that in future, always ask for tap water first : ) then if they say they only sell bottles, ask a different member of staff ; )

mmm i had spicey mexican chicken pasty in the car on the way home, also in the dark lol. jeez you were eating PASTA whilst driving?! haha madness

good times indeed!

Bands:
Ensiferum
Korpiklaani
Moonsorrow
Eluveitie
