DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL 2008
Comment my pics on facebook here
Tues I was crapping myself as I had a broken camera and no download ticket!
Thankfully the post that morning cheered me up!
Here's my new camera DSC W80 - not quite as good as my old one but I needed a Sony one urgently so I could use my existing memory and batteries for Download. It did the job didnt it!
My favourite photos are here on flickr
weds morning 9pm I legged it to the first train from Padgate. nearly missed it! lol
just made it
saw kat ont train
forgot to get off at birchwood oops lol

£30 derby<>manchester return ticket :D woop
padgate to picadilly trains were free :D

£15 tent
£20 backpack
£20 airbed
shep n i sped through the queue
we arrived about 12.45 and beat jay, amy n co by about half an hour :P
we shot through the queue over an hour faster than them :P

amy ste nic sair craig jon hannah and jay :D

shep and i helped them carry some stuff to the blue site
we got a great spot
faced the tents inwards in a big circle
weds afternoon we just chilled out
went to the village tent to watch the end of guitar hero
then the comedians :D
canadian wasnt great
meatloaf presenter was ace
we managed to get a couple of meatloaf songs out of him heheh
another comedian got bood off heheheheh :P
he was absolutelyyyy shiiiiiiite
"this is snow, white stuff outta his pockets, biggger snow!"
ribbons bollocks
third comedian hospital radio dude
kept scratchin his balls
looked well dodgy
he played some really dodgy pop songs and got away with it coz he was quite funny
after the comedy finished, there was an amazing club night
pantera machine head slipknot killswitch engage and EVEN KORPIKLAANI!!!
massive pit hehehe
this years 4th tent campsite tent was cool
2nd stage was bigger this year, outdoor on concrete
3rd stage tent was nice n big this year too :D
after moshin in the campsite tent, shep shea n i wobbled home n i think i crashed in my soggy tent
it had been chucking it down while we were in the comedy tent
air bed was all damp
puddles below it
smelly clothes n ruined timetables on the first night lol
cold night that night!
no pillow
£15 ebay tent was small lol
my feet stuck out the door
i had to bend my legs all night every night so i could fit in it lol
airbed was great though compared to last year
very comfortable and actually stayed up this year!
thurs we ate food n chilled with out camp mates
it started raining again so we bought a gazibo
with missing pieces lol
second or third time we went back for replacements jon and i bought waffles
OBVIOUSLY i had a banana n chocolate waffle
£3.50
its all gooooooood
jon and i fixed the gazibo then we didnt actually use it to shelter from the rain lol
it didnt rain again apart from sat morn after skindred
thurs evening we went out into the village n went on a couple of rides
spinny ride up n down n side to side
went on that a few times overt weekend
stabbed my leg with my keys lol
we drank quite a fair bit
memorys failing me lollllllllll
thurs night i had a DRY TENT!
fri morning everyone was waiting for nic to get ready lollll
it seemed like EVERYONE had gone to the stages on that long walk, bottle fight n took ages to get through to the black tide
i didnt get searched! mustve been one of the least dodgy looking folk
45 minute walk to the main stage from the campsite!
eeep
shep n i were the speedy ones and managed to see 3 or 4 black tide songs :P
15 year old lead singer! heavy metal :D n 18 ish year old guitarist
amy n jay missed out. toooooo slow :P
shame finger eleven couldnt play :(
i went off to watch the stone gods
they were quite good, not as catchy as the darkness though
seether played a few songs i didnt know : ( short set too. remedy was amazing.
they played an amazing nirvana song! i had a great mosh to that!
saw most of firewind after seether, they were fantastic, rob n joe wouldve liked them power metal
kid rock cancelled LOL huge cheer disturbed n judas priest got a longer set :D:D:D:D
disturbed were amazing
nearly an hours set i think :D
probably the most popular band of the whole weekend
shame we werent all together to watch them though
i was rockin out with randoms :D
i was too tired to watch the subways so just laid on the grass n watched a couple of motorhead songs
after the ace of spades i bumped into shep outside the mullerice bus :D suprise suprise
everyone loves a freebie
ate loads of them over the weekend
shep n i relaxed to pantera in the meditation camp chilling with lovely folk
i couldnt be arsed watching judas priest, we missed so many bands coz of tiredness
rise against, malefice, animal alpha....
whole day of bands takes its toll
when we recovered we went to watch delinger escape plan who were ABOSLUTELY CRAZY
after about 20 mins of kiss, cheesy classic hard rock, their outfits were REALLY fucking strange lol
world record was broken for most people painted up as kiss
im not their biggest fan though so i didnt bother
dare in our camp meant lads had finger nails painted n i had satanic hair horns or punk pony tails lol good laugh
mathcore delinger escape plan MENTAL
lead singer was climbing columns up the tent as was the lead guitarist
jumpin n crowd was crazy
first headliners we saw in full DELINGER
didnt bother with lostprophets
shea n i lost shep, he was going crazy in the pits as usual
we lost contact with him until back in camp
we mustve gone out again, most likely bongo tent
fri night i went to watch jason rouse :D:D:D:D fucking awesome. I managed to meet him before and after the show
massive crowd
people were shouting punchlines coz of youtube lol
managed to get his autograph n a photo :D
spoke to him about the mad dutch guy
jason rouse cool guy canadian, lives in england
he has a REALLY hot girlfriend, absolutely stonking georgous renae
sat mornin it looked sunny, roasting in the tent!
jon, hannah n i went to watch skindred
wouldve watched malefice if i had the energy
got the bassest on my last fm
after skindred it started lashing it down with rain
hannah n jons parasols made good brollies :D
the right hand side of my body got soaked lol hiding under a bit of jons brolly
3 or 4 catchy songs that i know
raga / regae metal skindred are cool :D
we watched the end of mexicolas, they were ok
jon n hannah watched trigger the bloodshed, i didnt really like it (deathcore) i thought it sounded a bit shit screamo really
the last supper were next :D met up with adam n jon n glynn, nick n amanda :D n stilt walkers
lovely people
i have PROPER wristbands! :P
caravans! hotels?! noooooooooo get in a fooking tent!
last supper werent quite as tight as the other bands
they arent as big but they're my sort of music, alternative, remind me of tool at times, good songs!
they sent me a message on my myspace before download, "congratulations on your degree pete! hope to see you at download" very friendly people!
ill message em to say "GOOD SHOW and i took my friends to see you"
jon n hannah didnt watch them though, not their thing.
jon was piled up with stuff on the weds so he was still tired i reckon ;P
adam jon glynn n co went to watch throwdown.
i then watched a few ok songs by big linda, not great though so i went to watch alter bridge. they were only ok too so i bought another footlong :D
they played about a 45 minute set, i watched about 20 mins and they didnt really play any songs that I really wanted
£fiver footlong mmmmmm piled high with loadsa meat n bacon n onions bargain value festival food :D
the haze werent really experimental :? they were more indie
jay didnt really enjoy em either
they didnt really fit in at download
i skipped biffy clyro as ive already seen em
bumped into shep again near the mullerrice bus :D
we chilled in the meditation camp again savin energy for amon amarth :D
they were FAN fuck!ng tastic :D
got plenty of photos for joe n rob, they wouldve loved that gig!
quality tunage!
sheps afro bobbing up n down int pit
shep n i looked after jon n hannahs chairs while they went for food
we chillaxed during ace freeley, not really arsed about him classic heavy rock, ex kiss bloke,
PENDULUM NEXT :D
fantastic!
as Sarah said they were very guitar driven, I love propane nightmares :D
manic crowd
good show!
plenty of guitars
its a shame the day light hinders the great lighting shows
watched them with nic sair amy n jay : )
same for INCUBUS :D
not quite as good sound as MEN!
bit windy
not a greatest hits set
very beautiful though
extended versions of songs
they were on for 1hr 15 which was plenty of time but they played long versions of all songs, even not most popular songs, bit strange but still great
most of my friends went to see incubus :D
ash clashed unfortunately, seen em a few times before anyway, would rather see incubus
next band saxon, i had another meal while they were on. classic band. im sure rob n joe wouldve liked them!
next band were testament headlining the third stage.
as were all of the headliners i saw over the weekend
testament were great
massive surge at the start of the gig
quite a rough pit got going
then back to camp for bonfire n sex stories
nackered
sober then drank shit loads of mixed stuff teqila loads of wisky n wahtever jay was drinking
then two spinny rides one after the other lol
wasted after about 20 mins lol on the floor
back in bongo tent
bruised my hands lol
wacking that drum
shep broke a big wooden chair somehow
mmm chinese tea? flowery taste, strange taste
cold nights,
sun burnt nose and a cold lolllllll
didnt rain tooooooo much
really late night sat night, 4 or 5 o clock i think
nackered on sun morn
missed cry for silence : ( animal alpha - female alternative band i recommended to amanda n adam when i bumped into them while they were waiting for offspring
they mustve played a short gig! whereas testament played an uber long 1hr30 gig, no wonder i was nackered lol
out watchin all bands all day n night, then partying til 5 lol
missed sons of albion, municipal waste, black stone cherry : (
I wish i had more energy! more bananas! to get up early enough for municipal waste n blackstone cherry etc!
first band i saw on sunday was apocalyptica!
shep n i acompanied our friends back to the car as they were nackered n heading home
shep n i stayed n legged it to apocalyptica :D
great songs
my camera was delivered the morning before the festival and turned out pretty much perfect for the festival, just about enough memory and battery. the quality isnt too bad. not quite as good picture quality 7mn<10mp
its smaller n lighter though
was delivered day before fest along with my download ticket"!!!!! was crapping myself day before lol
anyway back to apocalyptica hall of the mountain kinggggggggggg
not quite as good as Manchester's academy 2 of course, not many venues are as good as them
couldnt see airbourne : ( as they clashed with within temptation : ( boohoooo i love that band, good australian rock n roll acdc style band
i want their album
within temptation were FANTASTIC!!!!
listened to them on my mp3 player too
lead singer is HOT
massive deep red dress that she ripped off after the first song :D to reveal a
nice little black skirt with black tights, lovely woman, beautiful lovely singing voice
never went off note, even when moshing, n dancing
i didnt get much sleep averaging about 4 or 5 hours over the 5 nights i was there
great airbed though
had to take off my nail polish when i got home LOL
jay put LOADS of make up on
dunno if he actually got around to wearing his hasslehoff thong
lost his wallet poor fella!
nicola put nail polish on shea, but within about 5 or 10 minutes he'd scraped it all off!!!!! dunno how he did it, shep n i were struggling to get it off lol
within temptation melodic rocking songs
in flames were next, mmmm double cheeseburger with onions mmmm loving the fried onions
in flames werent really my sorta band, just a tad too heavy for me. shep n shea were back at camp i think lazy buggers
we got given loads of stuff on sunday :D
took bloody ages to get that nail polish off lol, even with remover!
in flames singer seems really stupid, the way he talks, the things he says, pretty irrelevant. cool dreads though!
i sat down n nearly fell asleep through coheed n cambria. i didnt enjoy any of their songs really until WELCOME HOME. the best song BY FAR!!!
strange lookin lead singer
MUHASSSSSSSIVE
fluffy black ball of hair
i got a couple of pics of his face when he was moshin to welcome home :D
i then watched a few songs of the wildhearts before bodom
they wanted as many bottles n sh!t thrown onto the stage
funny sight
shep n shea came out of the campsite for bodom
very good band, i really enjoyed a lot of their songs
we relaxed to a few cavalera conspiracy tunes next. remaining members of sepultura
then third stage again for jonathan davis, violin! bongos! great songs, chilled out. i want his album :D
he was doing weird swaying in his chair
Favourite bands of download - Disturbed, Within Temptation, Amon Amarth, Pendulum, Incubus, and Testament
None of this years bands I really loved. Lots of good songs though.
4 or 5 trains from derby. then bus from warrington to padgate
didnt have too much to carry, all in one backpack
sunday night i bought a nice opeth hoody for £28
nice design on the back :D gonna get a lot of wear out of that!
comparing download 08 to download 07
the campsite was so much better
the friends were amazing
cant believe john n lliam didnt take mobiles n chaleys was often off so we had trouble arranging stuff with them
alan wasnt too bad
fires n explosions everywhere on sunday night lol
people smashing up tents n radios with metal sticks lol
fire men had fun
toni n matt were cool company on sunday night
no bish joe or rob this year :( cant wait for bloodstock!

tent swapping at the end
amy's album 1
amy's album 2
jays album
shirlane took some amazing photos of the bands
its a shame she saw mostly bands I didnt see lol
here are some last fm comments n reviews:
Just got back from the event, The Dillinger Escape Plan had to be the highlight for me, they were amazing! So much energy in their performance!! From the singer hanging upside down on the side scaffolding afer climbing half way up - to one the guitarists jumping from off the top of a huge amp onto his knees.
TIMMEH
Kiss had pyro and zipwires!!!
Within Temptation were awesome!!
i think the crowd at pendulum was the funniest thing i've ever seen. huge guys with slayer shirts dancing around with glowsticks.
Blue camp!!! BUTSCRATCHER!!! "WHEN I SAY 'VAGINAL' YOU SAY 'DISCHARGE'..." Hahahaha! Such a good weekend!
